Have you ever wondered why your helium balloons only float for a limited time when inflated with helium? Here we talk about how we can extend that time. What other factors affect your balloons and how to care for them.
When filling an 11 inch latex balloon with helium the float time is approximately 8-12 hours. We as professionals can prolong this time by adding ultra hi-float. Adding this product then changes the balloon's float time to approximately five days. Being able to do this means that you will be able to decorate more venues as you can prepare them before an event. It also means that your customers can enjoy your displays for a longer period of time.
Any float time wlll also be affected by other conditions especially if used in hot or humid weather. Float times may vary greatly depending on many factors such as balloon quality, temperature, humidity and how you tie the balloon.
Hi-Float is a patented gel that can be added to the inside of latex balloons which will extend the life of your balloons. When high float dries inside your balloons it creates a coating on the inside slowing the natural process of helium or air from escaping through the latex molecules.
How to apply hi-float;
- Get a latex balloon
- Add the correct restrictor to your high float pump
- Spread out the hi-float to the inside of the balloon with your fingers
- Avoid getting hi-float in the neck of your balloon as this will stop hi-float getting on the nozzle of your inflator.
- Inflate the balloon as usual.
The amount hi-float required will depend on the size of your balloon. If you use to much hi-float for the size of the balloon this will cause the balloon not to float. If you use too little hi-float your balloon will not last as long. There are a few ways you can work out the correct amount of hi-float required, either by the amount of pumps, or in some packets the pump comes with colour coded restriction clips that give you the right amount of hi-float for the size of balloon you are using.
Pump amount;
9” balloons - half a pump
11” balloon - 1 pump
14” balloon - 2 pumps
16 balloon - 3 pumps
Restriction coloured clips;
9” = Purple Clip
11” = Orange Clip
14” = Orange Clip
16” = Grey Clip
Hi-Float tips
Always allow your hi-float to dry inside the latex before you place it in a transportation bag. If the hi-float drys on its side it may float that way when its out the bag.
